Ordered a custom sized gate last week from Orchard Fencing. Was told it would be delivered on Friday. What was sitting in the back garden Wednesday evening?
So now we have a gate. This thing is solid and bloody heavy. Next time I'm in Dover I should check to see if anyone has nicked the front door to the castle. Designed to repel the French or marauding huns I think. As long as it keeps out the cats and the fox that seemed to like sleeping under the patio table I'm happy.
A simple bit of work to complete. Just attach the hinges and mount to the post. A bit of timber screwed to the shed wall provides the stop and mounting point for the latch. Easy. Heavy but easy. The latch is a neat bit of kit. Looks like just a pull ring but it twists to operate a latch. The only down side is the actual latch has to be on the opening side of the gate. In our case that meant putting it on the outside as we need the gate to open outward. The gate also came with a locking bolt incase we ever decide to lock it shut. For now though just having something that closes is good enough.
